Braille is used to help blind peoples become aware of different conversions such as spelling, punctuation, paragraphing, and footnotes. The average speed a person reads by braille is 125 words per minute. Blind eleven year old Louis Braille enrolled into the National Institute of the Blind and spent nine years refining a system of raised dots to become known as his name. Over time this became known as the Braille System and it is now used to help blind individuals. The Braille System is based on a cell of six dots and reading by the fingertip will be more superficial because the whole letter may be read. One powerful story is the story of Stevie Wonder. He is blind and overcame that obsticle to write and play music. He was not born blind but at birth, his eyes were developed premature but shortly after birth, he became blind. He started off his musical instruments with the harmonica and then the drums and was also active in his church's chior. He was given GRAMMY awards 7 different years. He is primarilly known as a jazz artist and his music pieces are truly works of art.

The first hearing aids were in the form of hand-held horns but Alphonsus William Webster was the first man to who thought of the curved earpiece for the ear. As technology becomes more modern, earpieces are now able to become less noticible. Deidre Downs was Miss America in 2005 and is a national spokesperson for the Better Hearing Institute. Deidre has hearing loss and she plans to be a pediatrician in order to educate more and more young children. Her hearing loss is genetic because both her father and brother suffer from it.
